Occupational Safety & Health

Departments / Occupational Safety & Health

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health recognizes that the students, faculty, and staff of Midwestern University are the university's greatest assets and the safety of these students, faculty, and staff is our greatest concern. Our goal is to maintain a safe and healthy campus environment through recognition, evaluation and control of hazardous conditions while complying with the regulatory requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and applicable state and local regulations. The Occupational Safety and Health department develops and manages programs designed to promote safe practices, recognize, evaluate and control hazardous conditions, and thereby reduce the number and severity of injuries to students, faculty and staff.  We support students, faculty and staff in laboratory and clinical areas and general workplace settings.

Some of the University-wide programs we manage and monitor include:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Respiratory  Protection
  • Hazardous Substances
  • Medical Laser Safety
  • Research Animal Safety
  • Radiation Safety

Safety is everyone's responsibility. Do you have concerns about a potential safety hazard? You can report routine physical safety hazards that need attention (such as broken or missing handrails, tripping hazards, fire hazards such as improper storage, or other conditions that might result in injury or property damage).  Occupational Safety and Health staff will evaluate the condition reported, and coordinate any action needed with the appropriate university department.
